Candidates can register for the test on the official website of the Chinese Test Service at https://www.chinesetest.cn. Please read the following instructions carefully before registration.
Registration Document Requirements: Candidates are required to prepare valid registration documents in advance, which include a passport or original resident identity card. Candidates registering at test centers outside their home country must use a passport for registration, while those registering at test centers in their home country may use either a passport or an original resident identity card.
For the Chinese Proficiency Test, candidates must present a valid government-issued identity document (passport, resident identity card, residence permit, travel permit, etc.) that meets the requirements of the country or region where the test is taken on the exam day. In particular, candidates from the Taiwan region of China who take the exam in other parts of China (excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions) must present a Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan Residents.
Test Day Admission Requirements: Personal information such as name and date of birth on the identity document must be exactly consistent with the registration information. Candidates who fail to present a valid document or present an invalid one will not be admitted to the exam, and no application for deferred exam, withdrawal or refund will be accepted.
Note: If a candidate cannot present the original passport on the exam day because it has been submitted to an embassy or immigration center for visa processing, the candidate must present both a copy of the original passport and the original receipt of visa application issued by the visa authority. Admission will be granted only after verification is completed.
1. Sign up as a user of the Chinese Test Service Website.
2. Select the test type, test date, and test center.
3. Fill in your personal information and verify it, then upload a photo.
4. Fill in your mailing information.
5. Confirm the information and submit it.
6. Pay the test fee online or contact the test center to pay the test fee and complete the registration.
7. Get your admission ticket.
Only after completing steps 1 to 6 will the candidate's registration be officially valid.
You need to sign up as a user of the website if you're using the Chinese Test Service website for the first time. Before signing up, you'll see the CTI Registration Agreement and a Guide to Privacy Protection for Chinese Test Candidates. Click the 'I have read and agree' button to confirm that you accept and will follow these terms. After setting up a username, providing an email address, and setting a password, you will be successfully signed up.
Please note:
· Each email address can only sign up for one Chinese Test Service Website account;
· Candidates' personal information will be effectively secured and kept strictly confidential. The personal information provided by candidates will be used to contact them and for other matters related to the test;
· Candidates need to log in with their email address each time they access the Chinese Test Service Website. Candidates can only perform various operations after logging in with their account;
· Candidates can register for multiple tests at the same time on the Chinese Test Service Website (HSK Level 5 and Level 6 tests cannot be registered for on the same day at this time);
· Candidates can view their test records, mailing information, pay test fees, issue invoices, and change their passwords in 'My Account';
· No modification of personal information is allowed after successful fee payment. If any incorrect information is found, please contact the Chinese Test Service Website (Email: kaoshi@chinesetest.cn; Tel: +86(0)10 59307020 (Chinese) / 59307662 (English); Service Hours: Monday to Friday 9:00-11:30, 13:30-18:00, excluding national legal holidays; For inquiries on Weekend, please contact the registered test center) to apply for correction and attach supporting documents to ensure smooth exam participation. If incorrect personal information is found on the exam day, candidates must clearly inform the test center staff of the modification request and provide necessary supporting materials (e.g., photos of the original identity document). No free modification of personal information will be accepted more than three days after the exam; candidates need to submit a paid application for score report information correction or additional score reports via the Chinese Test Service Website.
Click 'Book a Test', select the test type, test level, test format, and test date, and then select the test center.
Please note:
If a candidate leaves or accidentally disconnects without paying the test fee, please pay the test fee as soon as possible after pre-registration to avoid being unable to pay the fee and complete the registration once the test seats are full.
Please follow the instructions on the screen when you enter the personal information filling page. Please fill in your personal information correctly and verify your mobile phone number at this step.
Please note:
· The photograph must be a recent (taken within 6 months) color bareheaded official photo of the candidate, preferably with a white background.
· The file size must be between 50kb and 500kb, and the format must be jpg.
· Scenery photos, casual photos or photos with an incomplete facial display are not acceptable.
· Wearing hats, headscarves, hair bands, sunglasses or other accessories is not allowed, except for religious reasons.
· Over-edited, PS-modified or AI-altered photos are not to be submitted.
Test centers reserve the right to refuse admission to candidates if the photograph fails verification or the candidate cannot be identified. CTI reserves the right to cancel candidates' scores, and no exam fee refund will be given in such cases.
Candidates registering at test centers in other parts of China (excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions) are required to fill in mailing information, which can be done after completing the personal information section. Candidates registering at test centers in Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan regions of China or overseas are not required to fill in mailing information.
Confirm that the above information is correct, read the 'Notes on Chinese Test Registration' and 'A Guide to Privacy Protection for Chinese Test Candidates' carefully, and tick 'I have read and agree' after reading. You will not be able to continue with the registration process if you do not tick this box.
Candidates registering at test centers in other parts of China (excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions) may make online payments directly via quick payment, online banking, QR code payment, JCB/VISA/Master card. Candidates will be redirected to the corresponding payment platform for online payment.
Candidates registering at test centers in Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan regions of China or overseas must pay the fee on-site at the test center or via the method specified by the test center.
For registrations at test centers in other parts of China (excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions), no application for withdrawal, refund, or adjustment of exam type/level/format/test center will be accepted once the registration is confirmed and the fee is paid.
You can log in to the Chinese Test Service Website 5-7 days before the test, print your admission ticket in 'My Account'. In case of any issues, you may contact with the test center for assistance with printing or collect the admission ticket as required by the test center. You must bring a physical admission ticket on the test day.
The name, gender, date of birth and ID number filled in on the admission ticket must be consistent with the valid ID used when registering, otherwise you will not be allowed to take the test.
After printing or collecting your admission ticket, please carefully check that all the information on it is accurate and correct. If there are any errors in the information on the admission ticket, please contact the test center to have it corrected before the test.
You need to keep your admission ticket after the test, as you will need it to print or collect your score report. You will also need your admission ticket information to check your results online and apply for additional score reports and other score services.

3. Candidates taking the paper-based test must bring 2B pencils (two or more) and an eraser. Candidates taking the computer-based test are not permitted to bring paper or pencils.
4. All other items should be stored in the designated area specified by the invigilator and may not be carried on the person.
5. Candidates who cannot provide the required identification and admission ticket upon entry will not be permitted to take the test and will not be eligible for rescheduling, withdrawal, or refunds.
Please note:
· If a candidate's passport is currently being renewed or reissued by the Entry-Exit Administration Bureau or other relevant authorities, they should present both the receipt issued by the authority and a copy of the original passport when taking the test. Both documents are required.
· The type of identification required for the YCT test is not subject to the above restrictions.
1. Candidates must arrive at the test center 30 minutes before the exam start time indicated on the admission ticket.
2. For HSK/YCT/BCT written exams: If a candidate arrives after the exam start time (indicated on the admission ticket) but before the end of the listening section, the candidate may only enter the exam room after the listening section ends, and the missed time will not be compensated. Candidates arriving after the start of the reading section will not be admitted.
3. For HSK/YCT/BCT oral exams: Candidates arriving after the exam start time (indicated on the admission ticket) will not be admitted.
4. Proceed to the waiting area upon arrival at the test center; restrooms are accessible during this period.
5. Store personal items (please keep personal items safe to avoid loss).
6. Complete identity verification and security check.
7. Proceed to the assigned seat and wait for the exam under the invigilator's guidance (candidates have no right to choose their seats).
8. The invigilator will read the test instructions and distribute the online exam password. Candidates are not allowed to exchange online exam passwords or log in to others' accounts. Exchanging admission ticket numbers or passwords for login is deemed as proxy testing.
9. For computer-based online exams: Log in to the exam system with the admission ticket number and password and test the equipment. The exam is timed automatically by the computer. Cross-section answering is not allowed for the listening, reading and writing sections (i.e., no answering of listening or writing questions during the reading section). All answers must be completed within the specified time. A draft area is provided for some questions in the computer-based online exam system. Candidates are not allowed to use stationery, or record exam questions and answers during the exam.
10. For paper-based exams: Fill in and mark the answer sheet as required by the invigilator. Cross-section answering is not allowed for the listening, reading and writing sections after the exam starts (i.e., no reviewing or answering of listening or writing questions during the reading section). All answers must be completed within the specified time. Candidates may only use A4 scratch paper provided by the test center (no personal scratch paper is allowed). Scratch paper must be handed back to the invigilator after the exam, and candidates are not allowed to take exam questions and answers out of the exam room by any means. Candidates must follow the invigilator's instructions during the exam; failure to do so will result in the invigilator terminating the candidate's exam, which will affect subsequent score processing. Filling in someone else's admission ticket number or personal information will be deemed as proxy testing.
11. Collect personal items after the exam and leave the exam area under guidance.
1. Candidates should place their identification documents in the designated location for verification by the invigilators.
2. Candidates should sit in the designated seats and are not permitted to choose their seats independently.
3. Do not start answering questions before the exam officially begins; follow the invigilator's instructions.
4. Follow the invigilator's instructions and abide by exam rules in all exam procedures, and complete all exam sections independently. Failure to do so will result in the invigilator terminating the candidate's exam, which will affect subsequent score processing.
5. All electronic devices should be turned off and stored away, including but not limited to mobile phones, tablets, laptops, and watches. If any prohibited items are found in the test room, the candidate will be disqualified from the test, and their results will be invalidated. They will not be eligible for rescheduling, withdrawal, or refunds.
6. If a candidate is absent from the test on the day of the test for reasons not attributable to the test organizer, the test fee will not be refunded, and the candidate will not be eligible for rescheduling, withdrawal, or refunds.
7. Candidates requiring medical devices such as hearing aids to enter the test room must contact the test center in advance to submit an application (providing medical diagnosis documents). Otherwise, such devices will not be permitted in the test room. Candidates bringing medication into the test room should have it checked by the invigilator for any abnormalities before placing it on the main test desk for safekeeping.
8. Please remove your headphones after the listening test.
9. Candidates are not permitted to leave the test room during the speaking test. If they do so, their test results will be invalidated. No rescheduling or refunds will be permitted.
10. Candidates are required to wear headphones throughout the entire speaking test. Please ensure your voice is clear.
11. If you encounter any issues during the test, please raise your hand to signal.
12. If the test center is unable to provide a normal test environment due to issues such as damaged test papers or equipment, CTI will arrange for candidates to retake the test free of charge as soon as possible. The test location and level cannot be changed.
13. In the event of force majeure , such as natural disasters or social unrest, preventing the test from being conducted normally, CTI will arrange for candidates to retake the test or receive a full refund of the test fees as soon as possible. CTI and the test center shall not be responsible for any indirect losses in the above circumstances.
Candidates are not permitted to leave the test room during the test. There are no breaks during the test. If a candidate needs to use the restroom, they should obtain permission of the chief examiner and hand over their admission ticket and ID card to the invigilator before leaving the test room. The invigilator will verify the candidate's identity and conduct a security check again after the candidate returns to the test room. The candidate's admission ticket and ID card will be returned to them after the verification, and the time lost will not be compensated.
· Before leaving the test room, don't forget to take your admission ticket and ID with you.
· Before leaving the test center, remember to collect your personal belongings from the storage area.

Items to Bring

· Prohibited items:
Except for essential items, all other items are prohibited from being brought into the test room, including but not limited to backpacks, mobile phones, watches, laptops, MP3 players, timers, any electronic devices capable of recording audio, images, or videos, food, and water.
· Items permitted with invigilator approval: essential medications, etc.
· Please refer to the annual test schedule for the result release date. If results are not released by the specified date, please contact the test center immediately. The test center would report the issue to CTI within three days of the scheduled result release date (paper-based tests may experience delays due to the shipping process).
· Candidates should have completed the test normally to access their results and receive their score reports.
· Scores for paper-based written and oral exams will be released one month after the exam; scores for computer-based online written exams will be released 15 days after the exam, and scores for computer-based online oral exams will be released 20 days after the exam (the above release dates will be postponed for holidays).
· After scores are released, candidates can log in to the homepage of the Chinese Test Service website and inquire about scores by entering the admission ticket number and name.
Please Note: For specific arrangements, please refer to the test dates on the homepage of the Chinese Tests Service Website.
· For test centers in other parts of China (excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions): Score reports will be sent from the headquarters within 5 working days after score release to the mailing address filled in during registration. Please ensure that contact information is valid. If the courier cannot contact the candidate, the score report will be destroyed, and the candidate shall bear all resulting losses.
· For test centers in Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan regions of China or overseas: Score reports will be sent to the local test centers approximately 45 days after the exam; candidates must contact the test center to collect the report.
Please Note: Score reports are valid for two years as proof of a candidate's language proficiency.

Candidates who need additional score reports for personal reasons need to log in to the 'My Account' section of the Chinese Tests Service website to complete the application process. The maximum number of score reports that can be requested in a single application is 10.
2. Score Report Modification
Candidates can apply to modify personal information errors on their score reports by logging into the 'My Account' section of the Chinese Tests Service website. 3. Score Review
Candidates who have doubts about their results can apply for a score review by logging into the 'My Account' section of the Chinese Tests Service website. For the application process and notes, please refer to the 'Score Review Application' section of the Chinese Tests Service website.
· Within 27 days prior to the test (including the 27th day), Candidates may apply for a deferred exam free of charge (only for exam dates within six months after the original registration date; no changes to the test center, exam subject, level or format are allowed; only one deferred exam application is accepted per registration).
· From 27 days before the test (excluding the 27th day) to 10 days before the test date (including the 10th day), Candidates may apply for a deferred exam free of charge (only for exam dates within six months after the original registration date; no changes to the test center, exam subject, level or format are allowed; only one deferred exam application is accepted per registration).
· After the 10th day prior to the test date (excluding the 10th day), no further requests for rescheduling will be accepted.
Notes:
Candidates registered at test centers in other parts of China (excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions) can apply for a deferred exam independently by logging in to the Chinese Test Service Website (www.chinesetest.cn) and accessing the "Exam Records" section in "My Account".
Candidates registered at test centers in Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan regions of China or overseas must contact the test center to apply for a deferred exam. The test center will verify whether the candidate meets the deferred exam requirements in accordance with the relevant rules.
· For test centers in Mainland China, once registration is confirmed and fees paid, no cancellations or refunds will be accepted.
· Candidates suffering from a serious illness may apply for a test deferral or refund. Candidates must contact the test center before the test date to submit a deferral application and provide the original copy of a valid medical certificate (valid medical certificate: a diagnosis provided by a qualified physician that clearly indicates the candidate's inability to take the test on the test day; statements solely from the candidate are invalid). The test center will then submit the application to CTI for review, and the request will only be processed upon approval. No refund applications will be accepted after the test date or once the candidate has taken any test subject.
· Transfers between different test subjects, levels, or test centers are not permitted.
Please Note: The above regulations apply to the Chinese Proficiency Test, including HSK, HSK Speaking Test, YCT, BCT, and MCT, for both paper-based and internet-based formats.
· Candidates found cheating (including acts such as plagiarism, providing plagiarised material, bringing electronic devices or materials related to the test into the test room, or communicating information with individuals inside or outside the test room) will have their test terminated by the chief examiner, and their test results will be invalidated.
· Candidates who impersonating others will have their tests terminated by the chief examiner, and the results of the registered candidate will be invalidated, with a two-year ban on taking the test.
· Candidates who engage in behaviour that disrupts or negatively impacts other candidates will receive a warning from the chief examiner. If the warning is ineffective, their test will be terminated, and their results will be invalidated.
· Candidates who copy, photograph, or record test questions, or attempt to remove test papers or answer sheets from the test room will be warned once by the chief examiner. If the warning is ineffective, the test will be terminated, and the test results will be invalidated.
· Candidates who fail to comply with test instructions will be warned once by the chief examiner. If the warning is ineffective, the test will be terminated, and the test results will be invalidated.
· If candidates engage in other test misconduct, they will be handled in accordance with the Chinese Proficiency Test Misconduct Handling Regulations.
CTI will initiate investigation procedures regarding certain abnormal testing situations. During the investigation period, the release of relevant candidates' scores will be suspended, and any scores already published will be temporarily withdrawn.
Score Anomalies: A significant mismatch between the candidate's language proficiency and the score obtained.
Test Venue Anomalies: Instances involving reported cheating or leakage of exam materials at the test venue, or when the venue is selected for random inspection.
Technical Verification: Random checks of candidates' scores will be conducted periodically.
Document Review: CTI will re-review the candidate's answer sheets, speaking recordings, or writing samples, etc. Simultaneously, surveillance footage and test records will be investigated, with verification carried out in coordination with test center staff.
Timeframe: The review process typically takes 2 to 8 weeks and may be extended in complex cases. Candidates will be unable to check their scores during this period. Your patience is appreciated.
Valid Results: If no irregularities are found, scores will be released as scheduled.
Score Cancellation or Test Ban: Upon confirmation of a violation, disciplinary measures shall be applied in accordance with the Measures for Handling Violations in Chinese Proficiency Tests.
Ongoing Investigation: In complex situations, scores may be withheld for further verification.
Retesting: Under special circumstances, candidates may be required to retake the test within a specified time frame (generally within one month after the score release). If the results of the two tests fail the consistency verification, the scores will not be published.
