New HSK and YCT Test Launched Around the World
[source]  Division of Testing                [ Date of issue]  2010-04-19 00:00:00.0

The New Chinese Proficiency Test (New HSK for short) and the New Youth Chinese Test (New YCT for short) test were launched around the world. Numerous examination sites at home and abroad witnessed the successful launch of the new tests.

In order to better satisfy the demands of overseas Chinese language learners from various countries with varying levels of Chinese proficiency, Hanban has developed the new HSK and YCT tests. The new HSK and YCT tests are standardized international Chinese proficiency tests, with non-native speakers as their target group. They are directed at examining students’ capability in applying the Chinese language in their studies, their personal lives and their work. Both of the tests have been widely recognized and welcomed by overseas Chinese language learners.

The new type of exam consists of two independent parts: a written test and an oral test. The written test in the HSK exam consists of six levels, from HSK One to HSK Six, while the oral test consists of three levels, including HSK (Basic), HSK (Elementary-Intermediate) and HSK (Advanced). The new written test and oral test in the New HSK will be held on March 14th for the first time. It is scheduled to be held 8 times in 2010; in April, May, June, July, September, October, November and December.

The new YCT also consists of two independent parts: a written test and an oral test. The written test is divided into four grades, while the oral test is comprised of two levels, which are YCT (Basic) and YCT (Elementary-Intermediate). This new type of test will be held in May, June, August, October and November at various examination sites.
